Our HOUSE RULES are as follows:

NO SMOKING allowed in any building. We consider this a safety issue. No burning of any type of combustible items, candles, incense, etc. No space heaters of any kind.

No unauthorized guests. This rule is aimed at the established fact that visitors and guests are the source of so many events and problems. Each home has a good quantity of residents to enjoy your down time with, and we strive to afford you the privacy to quietly enjoy your group home without interference.

Your rental home is NEVER to be " the party'. Keep your recreations to yourselves and everything will work out fine.

No fighting, horseplay or practical jokes.

No discourteousness toward any fellow roomate. No stealing or mean acts.

FAQ's

Can I stay for just a month or so?
NO, our student dorm style housing are leases for full school years. These are for the full months of September through May each year, making our lease terms exactly condusive to SBCC. No partial months or partial semesters are offered.

What are these summer reserve fee's?
We are using regular residential houses, close to campus, for your housing. These homes have year round mortgages just like anywhere else. Your reserve fee helps maintain the house over the summer, and is the only way to ensure the home will be available for you in the Fall. We also put foreign exchange students in over the summer, and this helps with some added income. However, they do not pay as much and even your reserve fee as well as their rent does not equal full rent.

Can I have a friend from home flop in my room for a weekend?
Unfortunately, no. Each house is full enough just with the students who are paying to live there. Any more occupants than that and the conditions deteriorate quickly for everyone. There is a Holiday Inn not far from several of our houses, and all are within walking distance to the local youth Hostel at the train station. There is a $100 a night provisional charge for each night you allow a non-tenant to stay in a SBSH dorm. Its not worth it.

I don't want to share a room. Can I get a private room?
Our housing is shared room dorm style housing with 2 to a room. UCSB places 4 into rooms our size. We do have one or two private rooms in both the boys and girls dorms, using smaller rooms which we deem not large enough for 2. They are usually an additional $100 per month. When you make your inquiry, ask specifically for a single if you wish.

What Should I Bring?

We have a required item we need your student to bring. All SBSH residents should come with a mattress pad cover,  with sufficient specifications to protect your student from mattress allergens, and to also be liquid barrier to shield the mattress in return. One model is available through Penny's: Total Protection Mattress Pad and is $39.99. We also very much recommend ( not required however ) the Sealy mattress warmer they sell ( $39.00). Space heaters are strictly not allowed in SBSH dorms and these pads are approved by us. They can safely keep your student warm throughout the night, even if the house heater is not spreading evenly through all the bedrooms at times. The warmer is a great dorm present, and they will come to treasure it! Any brand is acceptable, but must offer:
  • Mattress pad ( required ): Allergen protection for the student and moisture protection for the mattress.
  • Mattress warmer ( optional ): Must have a shut off feature built in, generally 10 hours.

A Nice 'Bring' List:

Surge protector strip

Twin Sheets ( regular, not Long ), pillow cases, other bedding, etc.

Mattress Pad (and warmer?)

Alarm clock

Hangers

A Good Idea to Bring:

Laundry detergent, Laundry basket, Umbrella, Soap/toiletries, Study supplies, Sewing kit, Bathrobe, Flashlight, Plants, Towels, Camera, Decorative items,

Do Not Bring:
