Supplies

We provide the following materials for the students at each house on a weekly basis. Specific weekly amounts are stated to protect ASH from non renter useage and removal from site. To avoid running out all ASH renters are asked to protect thier supplies from removal or useage by non renters.

  • Laundry Soap. Very basic, in powder forms 3-4 loads per week per student.
  • Dish Soap. Squirt bottle kept up weekly.
  • Broom, mop, vaccuum ( in some houses w carpets ), dish sponges, scrubbers and other basic kitchen materials including window cleaner and Pine Sol. Larger supplies should last a semester. The smaller consumables will be re-supplied as needed.

General house foodstuff

Mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, margarine, cooking oil, sugar, salt & pepper are stocked and checked weekly.

There's more! Cereal, milk, pasta, ramen ... please visit the foodstuff page.

Housekeeping

The household cleaning consists of common area cleaning weekly. The kitchen is stocked with pots, pans and utensils.
Note: The weekly cleaning is 2 man hours, once a week. This is a crew of 2 who clean for 50 minutes, or 2 man hours weekly. If the house is found with many dirty dishes and the common areas unstraightened, much or even most of thier time will be used in the common areas only. If the main areas are kept up, then time for deep cleaning in the bathrooms and such will be available. Keeping a house is a shared duty between SBSH staff and the student residents.

Also, with the weekly house cleaning, this allows for step-in supervision into the main areas  and bedrooms, where we can watch for unauthorized guests and undesired activites in general.

DISCLAIMER

General

Many of the materials we provided are not only for convenience, but it also helps create organization and often stops problems!

We are doing all the running around, buying in bulk, purchasing and delivering right to the houses for everyone. If laundry soap is provided for instance, then 6 small boxes do no need to be purchased, stored and safeguarded separately by 6 students. One issue of borrowing, loaning and other often associated troubles and frustrations of having room mates is eliminated.

Food

Meals are not allowed to be provided within the City of Santa Barbara. Active Student Housing does not and cannot provide prepared meals. However providing materials for many household requirements and general food stuff that the students can prepare themselves can be provided.

Although most food groups are represented, we ask all families to consider our provisions as the cereals, condiments and the starches ONLY, when calculating your students needs for a balanced diet. Some may well live on our provisions, but fresh vegetables, dairy and fresh meats, fish and fowl are not brought in by us. Additional nutrition can be had at the fine cafeterias on SBCC campus or by additional shopping by each student.

We do not claim or believe that our provided foodstuff represents, in any way, a complete or a balanced diet. Many items are of the condiment nature or just staple foods.

With that said however, we try and provide as high a value as we can by buying in bulk and bringing unexpected variety, quantity and value for each student renter.

Recipes to make basic dishes using our most frequently provided foodstuffs are on the walls of the kitchen, in poster forms. We hope cooking skills may begin for some, who may later remember back to thier college year for fond memories of boiling water (hot dogs!), scrambling eggs and making spaghetti and meatballs!

Regarding food, each student should be prepared for lite cooking, ordering in and be able to use the Cafeterias on campus. SBCC has 3 terrific food sources, including a full cafeteria with veggies, entree's and everything needed for a good diet. There is also a walk through cafeteria for food on the go and a great cafe on the East campus with burritos, sandwiches and such. All will take a debit card. In addition there is a full restaurant up there served by the hospitality department. This complete restaurant is geared more to the local public than the students, however its up there and can be used.

There is easy pizza and oriental ordering in Santa Barbara, and there is refridgerator space and individual dry storage for each student to prepare meals at home. The kitchen is stocked with pots and pans* and is ready for a microwave quick chef to full on maestro bakers.
